The teams that he coached were always extremely solid, defensively at a much higher level than most other teams, and very successful and skilled in attack as well. If you combine all that with a unique training plan and competitive spirit, it is easy to see why Mirko Novosel is one of the greatest coaches in the history of basketball.

On September 9, 2007, Mirko Novosel “crossed the threshold” of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the home of the biggest stars of the sport. That means that the decision was supported by at least 18 of the 24 members of the commission made up of the true greats and experts of basketball, including a handful of longtime “inhabitants” of the Hall of Fame.

In the class of 2007, Phil Jackson, Mirko Novosel, Van Chancellor, Pedro Ferrandiz and Roy Williams, referee Marvin Rudolph and basketball team of the Texas Western University were immortalized.

In the Basketball Hall of Fame, elected in its first 49 years, there are only 287 giants: 134 players, 80 coaches, 54 basketball officials, 13 referees and 6 teams. Among 80 famous coaches, only seven are not from America. Mirko Novosel is one of them.
